New to the Christ Community?
All are welcome
Welcome is central to who we are as both Christians and Episcopalians (the American name for the Anglican Church of England, in which our theological and spiritual practices are rooted). When worshiping with us on a Sunday morning, we place great emphasis on inviting all people of faith – no matter age or denomination – to participate and join us in the celebration of the Eucharist – the spiritually symbolic “meal” of bread and wine. We Episcopalians open our table not because we take the Eucharist lightly, but because we take our Baptism seriously.
Visitors who prefer not to share in the Eucharist are welcome to come forward anyway to receive a blessing from the Celebrant. Simply cross your arms over your chest as a sign you prefer this. Or you can remain in your seats; no pressure!
How do I become a member?
The first step would be to join us for Sunday worship and stick around afterwards to meet us, and us you! From there, your can deepen your connection through regular participation in our community life. For now, just know you are welcome!
Officially joining the Episcopal Church starts with baptism. Plan on having a conversation with the priest first, who will fill you in on what that means and how to prepare for it. If you have been previously baptized in another denomination, we warmly recognize it.
What is Progressive Christianity?
By calling ourselves spiritually progressive we mean that we are Christians who…
- Believe that following the way of Christ can lead to an awareness and experience of the sacred and the oneness and unity of all life;
- Affirm that the gospel provides but one of many ways to experience the sacredness and oneness of life in community, and that we can draw from diverse sources of wisdom in our spiritual journey;
- Seek community that is inclusive of ALL people, including:
- Believers and agnostics,
- Persons of every identity
- Persons of all classes, race, and physical challenges
- Understand that the way we behave towards one another is the fullest expression of what we believe;
- Find grace in the search for understanding and believe there is more value in questioning than in absolutes;
- Strive for peace among all people;
- Strive to protect and restore the integrity of our Earth;
- Commit to a path of life-long learning, justice, compassion, and reconciliation.
